Dos: Barfing is bad, mmm’kay?

April 11th, 2008

Click here to find out what “Dos:” means.

I honestly don’t think I need to say much beyond the title, do I? I hope it gives away why I’ve been so absent.

Oh, wait. Okay, let me say this: when you’ve barfed so hard that your blood vessels around your eyes and down your throat burst, don’t go around making jokes in public about having been choked. That’s just not a good idea. I’m not saying how I know this, I’m just sayin’, is all.

.

P.S. When a woman you know is pregnant and suffering morning-noon-night sickness, asking more than once a week when this trimester is over will serve only to increase her despair and, consequently, her nausea. I’m sure you mean well, but again, I’m just sayin’, is all.

That’s the one real drawback to pregnancy — the constant barfing in the first trimester. Bleah. I remember that with a lot of not-so-polite words circling my brain. I’m sorry that it’s laying you low. Hopefully, you’ll wake up one morning VERY soon with a second wind, and with the nausea magically gone away!

Have you told the tot about Dos yet? If so, what was her reaction? How does she feel about this nebulous sibling so far?

Thanks, KLee. I appreciate any and all good wishes. The building dread, however, is that the heartburn that’s already rearing its ugly head will be the primary replacement for the nausea.

Yes, the tot knows. For better or for worse. I’m 15 weeks tomorrow, so risk of miscarriage is pretty small now, but the balance of weeks in this gestation is a long wait for a little kid. To her credit, however, she’s curious and positive.

My favorite tot take on the baby came a couple of weeks ago when we went to visit my mother at her store. The tot went in to my mom’s office to talk to her, and when it was time to go, she said, “Bye Gramma! I’m goin’ home now. I gotta get that baby out of mommy’s tummy and put it in a crib – WHERE IT BELONGS.” I thought my mom was like to pee her pants.
